She has covered sports in some of the most prestigious publications around the world. The last decade was spent in the Washington Post. The Washington Post covering football, basketball, multiple Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. In 2004 Nichols moved on to ESPN for a period of nine years in which she earned 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most frequented shows such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. Her Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral an integral part of her job for the network. After leaving the ESPN network, her subsequent stop was CNN and Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded featuring Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN as well as CNN International. It had over one billion viewers throughout the globe. Nichols was also a reporter on behalf of TNT in NBA broadcasts during the playoffs as well as All-Star broadcasts. Alongside reporting for TBS and TNT, she also reported on baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. It was only the 2nd occasion in the 42-year history of TBS that a women had been chosen from over 200 nominations.
